Trombone Sectional Dinner Party

I threw a dinner party the first week of break for the trombone marching band kids from high school. If I hadn’t lived at my co-op this past semester, I wouldn’t have been ready to host a dinner party by myself. Several people helped cook and prepare so that made things much easier as well.

waiting around while the pasta bakes

There were quite a few things I would change for next time, but the food turned out great and we had a good time. =)

me, Sarah

Me, most likely nervous!

Tiffany justifying some silly thing she did while Brian does a facepalm. <3

the table

Next time I’d start cooking earlier (4 PM instead of 4:30 PM), and set the table before everyone arrived. Also, remember to use the good silverware and very importantly, our salad bowl. We do have a nice salad bowl. Luckily, I think my guests that night are not very discerning in any case: “Woh, we have oil?!”

the noms, including ziti primavera

On the menu: baked ziti primavera (we used rotini instead of ziti), artisan bread from Trader Joe’s, and salad.

serving dinner

Brian helped serve, among other things.

Varun, Justin, and Jon

Credits also go to Jon, Tiffany, Christina, Justin, Andrew, and Mom (as always). Felicia and Amanda also hung out with Jon and me when we went shopping at Safeway.

Christina, Tiffany, and me

Dinner was lovely!

Smitha, Steven, Brian, and Harry

Andrew took all of these lovely photos. Photography is a super useful skill! I forgot to ask someone to take a picture of Andrew and me as well. Oops. Soo, there are no photos of him here!

simple tiramisu for engineers

Jon came by extra early to help make tiramisu. I didn’t know that tiramisu had rum (we used brandy) and espresso in it. I didn’t know a lot of stuff about tiramisu. Anyway, this stuff was delicious!

playing cranium

We played Cranium after dinner. I really prefer Taboo, Apples to Apples, and Pictionary though. Note to self for the future.

trombone group hoto

Hopefully we can continue to get together as the years go by! “…because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.”

Trombone Sectional Preparations, part two

Andrew:
Wait, am I supposed to go to your party thing tomorrow?

Me:
I don't know, that's what I'm asking you.

Andrew:
I was never in band though.

Me:
Yes, this is a good point.

Andrew:
I don't even know the names of the instruments.

Me:
Nor were you a trombone player (it's all just trombones).

Andrew:
That's the thing you blow in, right?

Me:
Yupp and there's a slide, like at the jazz thing we went to. But most of the people coming tomorrow don't play anymore haha. It'd be fun if you came...

Andrew:
I dunno...this sounds like some kind of reunion thing.

Me:
Yeah...But it'll be so entertaining.

Andrew:
Are you sure? Seems like it would be awkward. Everyone will be reminiscing about the good ol' days. I'll be asking someone to tell me which one is the trombone. I'll tell them I'm looking for the clarinet reunion. Oh, that's down the street? Wrong house?

Trombone Sectional Preparations, part one

Christina:
Cow [Brian] can come. I woke him up from sleep apparently lol he sounded pretty funny.

Me:
loll Cow is so cute sometimes. Brian should know the missing phone #s right? Have you asked yet? I'll call him.

Christina:
I think he's still sleeping LOL, or went back to sleep.

Me:
lol whatever ahahah poor Cow.

Christina:
Yeah call him though, he's so squishy now.
